As an artist Schalk is constantly working on getting involved with interesting projects and working with respected galleries. A few months ago he was approached and invited by the prestigious Equus Gallery outside Stellenbosch. The curator of the gallery

Carina du Randt started following Schalk's unique style and when the specific group show Lords of Winter came up, approached him for possible participation.

"When I saw the essence of the show and what it celebrated, it really was a no-brainer", says Schalk.

"My work already celebrates that part of us that hides in the shadows. This show is the perfect showcase for my work and the message I convey". Lords of Winter deals with the darker side of human emotions and celebrates that aspect of our psyche.

For Schalk, group exhibitions is as important as solo shows. The impact and exposure from these events, go a long way in building an artist' reputation with both collectors and galleries.

The show runs at Equus Gallery from 3 April until 26 June 2016.
